Onboarding Buddy System
An onboarding buddy system pairs a new employee with a colleague who accompanies them in their early weeks, helping them learn how things work day to day and build connections with teams.
A new starter cannot always find in a guide how to book a meeting room, who to write to about what, or how information sharing works in the team. A buddy is an approachable first point of contact for these everyday questions.
Make the match before day one and give the buddy time for the role. Using the core tools together and meeting the teams they will work closely with is a good start for the first week. Also explain which manager is responsible for decisions on objectives, leave or performance. At the end of the first month, listen to the questions the new employee still has.
