Employee Resource Groups
Employee resource groups are voluntary, employee-led communities supported by the organisation and formed around shared identities or life experiences.
Parents, disabled employees or other colleagues with similar experiences can come together to form a support network. Drawing on its members’ experience, a group can also offer views on an organisational policy or practice.
A parents’ group, for example, can compile the questions most often asked by employees returning from leave and develop a return-to-work guide with HR. The group’s purpose, how membership works, the resources it can use and who it sends its recommendations to are set out from the start. It is important to keep participation voluntary and to let members decide for themselves what information they share.
