Employee Voice
Employee voice is employees’ ability to express their views, suggestions and concerns about work and to contribute to the decisions that affect them.
Employee voice can come through an individual suggestion, in a team meeting or via employee representatives. What matters is that views reach the people who will make the decision and that employees can see how they were handled.
Before a new shift pattern is finalised, for example, invite employees from different shifts to review the draft. Explain which suggestions changed the plan, and why others could not be implemented. In the next conversation, ask employees not only whether they had the chance to give their views but also whether they felt they had an influence on the decision.
