Offboarding Communication

In short

Offboarding communication is the planned, respectful and clear communication that lets a leaving employee complete the process while keeping a good relationship; leavers are employer brand ambassadors too.

[DRAFT] Prepared for team approval; this note will be removed once approved.

Hiring is easy; managing goodbyes is hard. The moment of leaving writes the employee's final story about the company, retold on review platforms, in industry conversations and to future candidates. Good offboarding includes an exit interview, knowledge handover, recognition, an alumni network invitation and a team announcement.

Why it matters

Boomerang employees and alumni referrals are direct results of well-managed goodbyes; a bad goodbye does the most lasting damage to the employer brand.

Components
