Internal Communication

In short

Internal communication is the planned, continuous flow of information, meaning and connection between an organisation and its employees; it carries strategy, values and change into everyday work.

[DRAFT] Prepared for team approval; this note will be removed once approved.

Internal communication is more than sending announcements. It covers every exchange of information and meaning between employees and the organisation: what leaders say, how managers cascade it, intranet content, special-day celebrations. Good internal communication means employees always have a current answer to "what is happening, what is expected of me, why does it matter?".

Why it matters

Everything left unspoken inside becomes a different story outside. Regular, transparent internal communication strengthens engagement, adaptation to change and internal validation of the employer brand, and reduces uncertainty and rumour.

Core components

  • Strategy and message architecture: to whom, what, how often
  • Channel map: intranet, email, app, meetings, physical spaces
  • Leadership and manager communication
  • Calendar, ownership and measurement
