Crisis Communication (Internal)

In short

Internal crisis communication is the pre-prepared plan that ensures fast, consistent and reassuring information for employees during restructuring, downsizing, reputation issues or unexpected events.

[DRAFT] Prepared for team approval; this note will be removed once approved.

In a crisis the most expensive message is silence. Employees learning developments from the press or social media opens a crack in the employer brand that is hard to repair. A crisis communication plan defines scenarios, stakeholder map, message framework, spokespeople, channels and timing before anything happens.

Why it matters

In a crisis employees want an answer to "what happens to me?". Fast, honest communication protects trust; the longer uncertainty lasts, the more rumour, disengagement and attrition grow.

Plan components

  • Crisis scenarios and triggers
  • Message framework: key message, proof points, what not to say
  • Manager talking points and an FAQ set
  • Channels and timing; the inside-first principle
  • Post-crisis trust rebuilding
