Realistic Job Preview
A realistic job preview is a method that shows candidates a role’s daily tasks, working conditions, opportunities and challenges before they start.
A job ad lists tasks. A realistic job preview lets candidates see in what setting and at what pace they will carry them out. With this information, candidates can judge whether the role fits their own expectations.
In a short video about a typical shift for a store employee, for example, show a moment of helping a customer alongside the busy hours and the handover tasks at the end of the shift. Prepare the preview with an employee who does the job. Before candidates decide, offer them a conversation in which they can ask about what they have seen.
