Consumer Brand vs Employer Brand
The consumer brand promises products and services to customers; the employer brand promises a working experience to employees and candidates. They share one corporate identity but differ in audience, message and channel.
[DRAFT] Prepared for team approval; this note will be removed once approved.
The two brands are two faces of one organisation. The consumer brand shapes the buying decision; the employer brand shapes the "should I apply, should I stay?" decision. A strong consumer brand does not guarantee a strong employer brand: companies whose products are loved but whose working conditions are criticised are the best-known example.
Key differences
- Audience: customer / candidate and employee
- Promise: product benefit / work experience and career
- Proof: product experience / what employees say
- Owner: marketing / HR + corporate communication
How they align
The employer brand is designed as an extension of the corporate identity: the same visual foundation, a tone interpreted from the employee's point of view, so candidates feel no gap between the brand they know as consumers and the one they meet as applicants.
