Internal Communication Read and Participation Rate
Read rate is the share of the target audience that opened or read an internal communication item; participation rate measures likes, comments, survey responses and event attendance.
[DRAFT] Prepared for team approval; this note will be removed once approved.
Email opens, intranet page views, app notification opens, video watch time and town hall attendance measure the "reach" layer of internal communication. Participation (comments, questions, surveys, celebration posts) signals the "meaning" layer. Together they show which message, channel and format work.
Why it matters
Unmeasured internal communication counts as "done" because it was sent. Read and participation data let you tune the channel map, frequency and format on evidence, and reveal communication fatigue early.
In practice
- A measurement definition and target per channel
- A monthly internal communication dashboard
- Format and timing tests for low-read content
- "Was it understood?" validation via pulse survey
