Communication Fatigue
Communication fatigue is when employees, exposed to too many channels and messages, stop reading, mute notifications and miss important messages.
[DRAFT] Prepared for team approval; this note will be removed once approved.
Too many messages, too little meaning: every department sending its own announcement on every channel, the same information repeated five times, no prioritisation. Symptoms are falling read rates, more "I didn't hear" replies and lower survey participation.
Why it matters
A fatigued audience misses the most important message in a crisis or change. The impact of internal communication is measured by the meaning received, not the number of messages sent.
Remedy principles
- A channel map and a single "official" channel rule
- One weekly digest instead of scattered announcements
- Priority labels (info / action needed / urgent)
- Short, scannable content; pruning based on read data
