Employer Brand Tone of Voice
An employer brand’s tone of voice defines the words an organisation uses with candidates and employees, how it addresses them and the tone it adopts in each situation.
Announcing an internship programme on a careers account calls for a different tone from telling a candidate the outcome of an interview. In both texts the employer’s style should be recognisable, and readers should understand what they are being told and what happens next.
When preparing a tone of voice guide, add real writing examples next to adjectives such as “friendly”. Create sample texts for a job ad, an interview invitation and a reply to an unsuccessful application. Use these examples to show the preferred form of address, the use of internal abbreviations and the wording to choose for sensitive news.
